Breaking the News: Kriese Grandparents
We had a little more time to plan something fun to announce our news to Alyssa's parents.
Following our loss last year, we were particularly hesitant to share our news too early. As luck would have it, we had our annual spring breakup season escape planned in March at the 11-week mark. We were flying to San Antonio, TX to celebrate Opa's 80th and Dad's 57th birthdays.

The morning after Opa's 80th Birthday Bash, it was present time. We carefully handed both Opa and Dad fragile giftbags and waited for them to open their gifts last.
It's probably no surprise at all that Opa, a German immigrant, and his son love beer, so receiving matching glass steins was a rather classic gift. But the intricate etching required a closer eye; Dad finally finished reading:
HAPPY 57th BIRTHDAY
MY FAVORITE DAD est. 1995
MY KID'S FAVORITE OPA est. 2022
BABY HARTMAN FALL 2022
I'll remember the twinkle in his eye when he looked up from the glass for the rest of my life.
Mom, running errands to prepare for Dad's birthday celebration, missed opening the present altogether. So then the race was on to catch her before anyone spilled the beans.
We met her for breakfast tacos, but it didn't feel like the right time. When we got back to Oma and Opa's house, Dad pulled out his glass for her to see.
"Oh I know that!" - Grandma T
Somehow my mom had some intuition that just knew; maybe I'll get that mother's instinct here soon.
