A look back on the First Trimester
I'd agree with anyone who says the first trimester is the hardest.
While I was fortunate to have minimal pregnancy symptoms, the layering of life things happening this spring made enjoying those first 14 weeks of pregnancy more challenging than I'd dreamed.
Week 4-6
Following our loss in the fall, we were holding off on trying again until later in the spring, but in January, I just knew I was pregnant.
Two days before taking a very special trip to Washington, DC for my best friend's wedding, I got a positive pregnancy test. We were so excited and so very nervous to have such an important event ahead.
In these photos, I see so much happiness for my friend and so much anxiety for Zak and I. While I navigated a sober wedding week and bachelorette celebrations, it was fun to have a little secret (but in hindsight, it was totally obvious to anyone who was paying attention--if you are one of those reading this, congrats, you were right!)
After the trip, I settled into the first trimester as best as I could. In a sick trick of the universe's timing, I was on contract with our local government in addition to my work at the university working 60hr weeks in addition to the hobbies and activities I had planned for the spring anyway. Upon reflection, I think I may have overloaded myself to subconciously distract from the fear I had of losing our little kiddo.
But he stuck around, earning the name we've called him from the beginning: Sticky.
